Siblings

The other day I was going through pictures on my computer and I came across a picture from Jennifer’s wedding of my siblings and me.  This picture warms my heart.  13 years ago I would have never dreamed of having siblings but more importantly that my siblings would be some of my best friends.  Most people don’t even remember meeting their siblings for the first time my siblings and I on the other hand remember it like yesterday.
I told my siblings about this post and my sister Brandy and brother Dathen added this piece of the story "how we meant"!

I came back from college on a Friday and didn’t think anybody was home sense the vehicles were all gone but when I walked in you had a cloth in your hand scrubbing all of the counters. All you said was I am Heidi and Mom would be back soon and I just put my stuff in my room then everybody was back after that. I just thought it was strange coming in and somebody was cleaning. You seemed like a nice enough kid!

What I most remember, is the day you came to live with us full time. Mom had to work and she asked me to go get you in Bluffton at DCS. I went and I remember waiting for you to come into the lobby and you had nothing with you…one little trash bag of stuff and it was truly sad for me. I remember thinking…I can’t believe this kid has nothing and she had to live in that crappy group home for no reason.

I don’t really remember the weekend that you first came to visit but I do know that mom told me you were coming. I know that mom woke me up to meet you and to be honest…I could have cared less. I was 17 years old and we had so many foster kids come and go from our house, that I figured you wouldn’t be there long either. I remember that you had sweatpants on and you really did not have anything.

Mom took you shopping and got you a bunch of stuff at Old Navy and you were so happy!!!!! It’s funny…I didn’t realize how much you meant to me until the time you were having problems at high school freshman year and I helped you out…sisters for life.

We did not just become best friends by chance.  We became best friends because our Mother was determined to have a well blended family.  She made it her mission for years to join us together and create memories as a family.  Our Mother created situations that would make us bond together and more importantly laugh together.  We did not bond overnight by day by day it became stronger and stronger and now our bond is unbreakable.
So THANK YOU MOM for giving  us the gift of having lifelong best friends!

Go I.U.

A couple weeks ago the Top Gun crew headed to B-Town for a little wine and a lot of football! We started the day at Oliver Winery.  At Oliver we did a little tasting and picked up a cheese tray.  After the tasting we headed over to Indiana University for tailgating! We had a picnic lunch and lots of social time during tailgating.  Around 3:00pm we headed into the stadium to watch some football! I.U. pulled off the big win! Even though I am a Purdue grad I can cheer on I.U. with a little help from my friend called beer!

Another Year

Every year I try to wish my birthday away but it never seems to work.  My brother likes to tease me that I am getting closer to 30 and he thinks I am scared to be 30! Well I guess my big brother is right again (shh don’t tell him I said that).  I don’t like my birthday for many reasons but I really dread the thought of turning 30.  I still have 3 years but I set goals for myself that I might not reach.  I HATE failing so that is the reason I dread 30.
On a happier note my siblings and the kids spent my 27 birthday at my house.  We had fun talking and watching the kids play hide-n- seek.

Pet Blessing

Last weekend our church hosted its annual fall festival.  Right after service I headed out side and helped serve food. We served chili, hotdogs, nachos, and loaded potatoes.    I sometimes struggle finding where I fit in at church but last Sunday it felt good to help serve the food.  Later I walked around the farmers markets and craft vendors.  We also had tons of activities for kids there was a moon walk, clowns, face painting, and a petting zoo.  After all the outside festivities were complete we headed back into the sanctuary for the Blessing of the animals.  Having several animals in the sanctuary was a different sight, but very fun.  Pastor Martin discussed animals and God and why they were created. Pastor asked me to read scripture during the service.  We finished the service with each animal getting a personalized Blessing from Pastor Martin.

Baby Saunders

Who doesn’t love a baby shower?  They are so much fun…my favorite part is the planning and setting up.  Tiffany (Janell’s Mom) asked me several months ago to help plan and set up the shower.  This baby shower was bittersweet for me.  The bitter part was that my best friend Janell was not there to celebrate with her Brother (Justin) and Sister In-Law (Tracie).  The sweet part was that the Saunders family deserves joy in their lives.  Baby Saunders will sure bring lots of joy to everyone.  When Janell pasted away Heather, Tiffany, and I made a pact to never lose touch with each other and keep the memory of Janell alive.  We have kept our promise to our self and Janell.  Someday we will all laugh together until then we will have our memories.

Liv's 8th Birthday

Last month my oldest niece Alivia turned 8 years old.  Alivia is such a busy young lady.  She plays on two soccer leagues, is involved with Girl Scouts, and just had her first communion this summer.  Alivia is also looking forward to becoming a big sister.  She has told my sister Jennifer several times that it is taking too long for the baby to come, 40 weeks is a long time when you are 8!  Alivia is excited that she is going to have a little brother to go hunting and fishing with.  I love being a part of Alivia’s life and I can’t wait to meet her little brother and watch them bond and grow up together!  Happy 8th Birthday Livy Lou! Uncle Eric and I Love You so so Much!
We usually get the kids shoes but Liv is getting older and I thought it would be fun for her to pick her own out.  By her facial expression I think the money was a hit.
